Student Workers Make Bank
Being broke as a student in college is definitely not an uncommon thing. Money is hard to come by when you are doing so much here at Blue Mountain Christian University. If this is a concern for you, there is hope! BMCU has a program in which students can work on campus to earn extra money, whether that goes into pockets or towards their tuition. The student worker program is a way for students to gain work experience as well as contribute to the growth of BMCU. There are so many opportunities and places to work all over campus! The jobs and departments on campus include the following: Guyton Library, The Topper shop, the TLC, Athletics, BSU, and Blue Motion. Visit Financial Aid for more options.
All of these locations not only have amazing opportunities for students, but they also help build relationships and improve character as seen in a work place. BMCU student worker pay is also above minimum wage at ten dollars an hour. Whether it is going towards tuition or into a student’s pocket, that money adds up and for a college student, it is a good deal.
I have conducted multiple interviews with many of the campus facilities who are involved in the different positions available for student workers. I asked these staff common questions that are asked about becoming a student worker on campus.
The first interview I conducted was with Brett Fowler, who is head of the athletic department. I first asked Fowler what he expects from a student worker to which he responded, “I expect our student workers to be the best they can be to represent BMCU. This means being on time, putting their best foot forward in work, being courteous to everyone they meet and reflecting the light that shines by serving other gladly.”
I also interviewed Shelby Hudsucker who runs the student working opportunities in the library and asked her how one becomes a student worker to which she responded, “All students seeking a work study position need to check their eligibility with Mrs. Beverly Hickey in Financial Aid. If a student is seeking a position in a specific department, the student should speak with that supervisor as well.”
Both of these locations said that they were more than willing to speak to students any time, regardless if they are taking students in the specific location or not. There are also many other opportunities to be found around campus. If you are interested, head to the financial aid office at the bottom of the sub for all opportunities pertaining to your eligibility. Let us help grow BMCU together and get rid of those moths in our wallets while we are at it.
